Local favourite Ansu Bhuyan bagged a double by winning both the men’s singles and doubles titles in the 16th All-Odisha Nalco Open Tennis Tournament, which concluded here at Kalinga Stadium Tennis Complex today.
Second seed Bhuyan thrashed city opponent and third seed Avilash Mishra in the singles final, which proved to be a lop-sided affair. He completed the double by grabbing the doubles crown with his Gurukul Tennis Academy coach Santosh Mallik. Bhuyan received a total cash prize of Rs 13,000, while Mallik became richer by Rs 5,000.
Women’s title and a cash prize of Rs 6,000 was claimed by second seed Rutuparna Choudhury, who prevailed over third seed Shilpi Swarupa Das in the final by straight sets. Avilash Mishra and Mahesh Mohapatra emerged champions in boys’ under-16 and under-12 singles events respectively.
Mishra pocketed Rs 7,000, while Mohapatra became richer by Rs 5,000. The three titles in senior categories went to the comb inations of BK Nayak-JN Patnaik (40 plus), Biswajit Mishra-Paresh Singh(50 plus) and Niranjan Das-Pravat K Bakshi (60 plus).
Nalco CMD Anshuman Das, Director (Commercial) Soma Mondal and host Bhubaneswar District Tennis Association president Suresh Chandra Mohapatra handed over the trophies and cash prizes at the closing function. Tournament supervisors S C Sarangi and Prabin K Nayak were present on the occasion.
